CAPA Safety Council Consensus on ULR Lawsuit:
In reference to the lawsuit filed in the court of appeals by American, Continental, Evergreen Intl., JetBlue, United, and US Airways, concerning FAA OpSpec A332, the CAPA safety council is of the opinion that the currently proposed FAA guidance contains substantive improvements in addressing flight crew fatigue and should be supported. While the aspects covering the number of captains required in ultra long haul operations is not consistent with the council?s views, there are a number of elements to the proposed guidance that embrace scientifically based and widely accepted views on effective fatigue risk management. The council is in the process of drafting a formal response to the lawsuit and should have one ready by next week. The council opposes the lawsuit as filed.
