Washington, D.C. (April 10, 2017) – The Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations (CAPA) is pleased to announce the election of Captain Lee Collins as its new President. Captain Collins comes to CAPA from the Independent Pilots Association (IPA) with more than 25 years as a line Captain for United Parcel Service Airlines (UPS). He is also a 32-year veteran of the airline industry with an extensive professional background in aviation safety and security, including Domestic and International Flight Operations. Captain Collins has vast experience working for CAPA and the IPA before Congress and the executive branch of the federal government.
“It is a great honor to take the helm of CAPA and I intend to work tirelessly on the CAPA safety and security agenda which includes fighting any effort to lower the professional standards for airline pilot first officer qualifications (FOQ), promoting safety fatigue standards for both passenger and cargo pilots to ensure One Level of Safety, and ensuring the safe airline carriage of lithium batteries,” stated Captain Lee Collins.
As an Airline Transport rated (ATP) pilot and current line Captain with UPS Airlines, he has logged over 18,000 flight hours and is type rated in the B-727, B-757/767 and MD-11 aircraft. Captain Collins has served as the IPA’s Government Affairs Chairman since 2007, and previously served as the Director of Flight Operations for the IPA.
Captain Collins holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Political Science from the University of Kentucky, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. He is a native of Louisville, Kentucky.
