On September 30, 2026, the Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations (CAPA) hosted the 2026 Lithium Battery Safety Summit, bringing together representatives from more than 11 airlines to examine the growing safety challenges posed by lithium-ion batteries in aviation.

Research and technical insights were provided by UL Standards & Engagement and UL’s Fire Protection Division, highlighting current trends, emerging risks, and developments affecting the aviation industry.

The summit provided an opportunity for aviation safety professionals and pilot representatives to share information, exchange ideas, and collaborate on approaches to addressing this evolving aviation safety threat.

CAPA remains committed to working with industry partners, safety organizations, regulators, and its member associations to advance practical solutions that protect flight crews, passengers, and aircraft.
