(February 3, 2021 – Washington, DC) The Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations (CAPA), representing over 30,000 professional passenger and cargo airline pilots, issued the following statement today following the Senate’s confirmation of Pete Buttigieg to serve as the Secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOT):
CAPA, the world’s largest professional pilot trade association, is pleased with the bi-partisan confirmation of Pete Buttigieg as the Secretary of Transportation. The U.S. aviation industry is a critical component of our Nation’s economy, and we believe that there has never been a more crucial time for decisive and intelligent Government leadership. “As professional pilots and leaders, our highly technical jobs support the vital transportation conduit that drives our modern economy. This has never been more apparent as our Nation struggles from both an economic and health safety standpoint during the ongoing COVID crisis,” stated CAPA President Captain Larry Rooney.
“On behalf of CAPA, and our more than 30,000 professional airline pilot members, we look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts with Secretary Buttigieg in his new role at the DOT on crucial issues facing the transportation and aviation industry,” he further added.
